Plot/Synopsis
Uma (Radhika Apte) arrives in Mumbai with her new husband, Gopal (Ashok Pathak), after an arranged marriage. They live in a one-room house in a terraced row, and she is generally neglected. Bored and listless, she receives no physical affection. (In fact, it seems unlikely that the marriage has ever been consummated.) Her only friend is the next-door neighbour, Sheetal (Chhaya Kadam), but to make matters worse, she regularly hears her enjoying intimacy with her husband. As Uma’s frustration grows, she begins to seek work outside the home and develops a strange affinity for songbirds and goats.
